It's wonderful to be back!

...And we're back! Welcome to another awesome year of ideas, creative thinking, and fantastic artwork!

This week, we had loads of fun drawing imaginary self-portraits.

The younger students (PK-1) read the book A Color of His Own by Leo Leonni and were then instructed to select their favorite color or colors and then drew a self-portrait in their chosen color scheme with construction paper crayons and markers.

The older students viewed some abstract self-portraits and then created a Sharpie outline and filled in the color with watercolor markers. They learned about non-local color--color that is not the natural color of something. They were encouraged to also add black and white patterns to the background. We learned that black and white help bright colors "pop" when our eyes look at them.

I am so proud of their super fun and unique drawings!
