I love these simple, abstract paintings of a tree branch I did with my pre-K students! Some of these remind me of the work of Clyfford Still or the work of Japanese sumi-e ink painters.
Procedure:
1. Students painted a horizontal straight black line and then added straight lines at various angles to it. I told the students that sometimes "sneaky letters" are hiding in tree branches (like Y, X, T, A). It's a way to help them overlap lines and make more natural looking twigs in trees.
2. I showed them how to paint leaves by making a circle and adding a pointy tip. I encouraged them to use as many fall colors as possible to make their leaves.
I would take any one of them, frame it, and hang it in my living room!!!!

ReplyDeleteOoh! I love the simple beauty of these. They definitely have a Japanese sumi-e flair.
