Zorky The Build-A-Monster Game by 2nd Grade
This was one of the most fun projects we did in October! The kids absolutely loved it. Our P.E. teacher told me about a game she played when she was in elementary school in which the kids in her class each made separate parts of a monster's body and then sorted them into bins. The other students then had to choose a different head, body, arms and legs from the bins to build their own creature. (Her creature was named Zorky, hence the title of our project.)
So here is what we did:
1. Students drew a large monster head, body, arms and legs with permanent marker on 4 seperate pieces of 4 X 6 various colored construction paper. They only did contour drawings and did not color them in.
2. Students cut the parts out and sorted them into bins.
3. Students went from bin to bin collecting parts for their monster. The rule was they had to choose monster parts they did not create. (It was a collaborative project, after all).
4. Students added details to their monster, such as fur, feathers, and scales with oil pastels.
So much fun!
What fun! I'm going to 'pin' this for later in the year when we need some silly fun. Thanks for sharing.
