Summer Art Projects

These are some of the projects I worked on with my summer art students.

These images are from my sculpture class (8-10 years). We created paper mache sculptures using aluminum foil armature and layers of dry newspaper attached with masking tape. The next step was to add wet strips of mache. The students then painted them white and drew details on the pieces with Sharpie before painting them.

One of the next projects was to use recycled cardboard to create a 3-D sculpture. Students then drew on details with marker and used watercolor to paint the cardboard. A very nice effect!

These pieces were from my Mostly Monsters class. The first set are images of dragons created separately with torn tissue paper and decoupage glue (Elmer's mixed with water). Students added detail with marker when dry and then cut them out and attached them to a resist painting background showing where their dragons were. I love the variety of environments the students came up with!

The following pieces are monster masks made of recycled cardboard that was then painted with tempera and drawn on with oil pastel and Sharpie when dry.
