Fall Trees and Forests

These trees were drawn by PK-1st grade as a collaborative project. We looked at real trees and I mentioned to the students that there are hidden letters in the branches of trees! We looked for some and found: X, Y (the right way and also backwards), W, V, H, and sometimes A. 

Using this approach really helped the little guys comprehend the idea that there are many intersecting lines in tree branches and to look carefully at them to see what is really there instead of just our own IDEA of what is there. The students are currently working on some fantastic fall tree collages that I will be sharing in a week or so.
