Mark Kistler: A Very Special Guest Artist

This week, my students will get to have an in-person drawing lesson with Mark Kistler, known for his many public television drawing shows and how to draw books.

I used to watch him myself in the 80's on the show Secret City Adventures, which I believe really taught me the concept of drawing in 3-D. A funny side note: I still want to call him "Commander Mark" (his character from the show) every time I speak to him. I am so excited for my students to meet him and I am excited for me, too. Funny how things come full circle!

Mark has an outstanding website with how to draw lessons that are really fun and engaging if you are looking for a way to extend your students' art time on your classroom computer. You can find the site here. (Click on "Lessons" at the top. There are a tremendous number of free lessons on the site!)

The old Secret City episodes are also great to show students. May be a good substitute lesson even though the episodes are pretty old. You can find a lot of them on You Tube--I posted one of them below.

  1. I had Kistler come to my school one time. The kids will be drawing cartoons like crazy. He's great introducing cartooning!
