This is such an easy project with some pretty fantastic results! I had my Pre-K, K, and 1st graders trace a gingerbread baby onto brown construction paper. They simply cut it out and then added designs with oil pastel.
Easy enough...but to bring some art problem-solving to the lesson and go beyond a crafting activity, I instructed students to use lots of various kinds of lines from our line poster (a review from earlier in the semester) and to think of the oil pastel colors as "candy" they would add to the cookie if it was real.
I love the personalities of each one, especially the one with glasses. They ended up being sort of mini self portraits in gingerbread form and the kids had a blast making them!
