What are "art elements?"

Art elements, simply put, are the "ingredients" an artist uses to create a piece of artwork. They are the things we notice, observe, and discuss when we examine works of other artists, as well as things we choose to incorporate into our own artwork.

Some are:

line

shape

color

texture

pattern

form (shape of the piece in dimensional terms)

value (how light or dark the piece is)

...among many other elements. Each piece of artwork we create at school calls attention to one or more of these elements of art.

Our first nine weeks is centered around learning about elements of art and how to use and discuss them in the context of art making.
