Dragon Potters!

For the past month, the Dragons have been hard at work learning about pottery and ceramics, making pinch pots and even some animal effigy pots!

In part one of this assignment, pre-K through second grade made a pinch pot after learning about famous Mexican potter, Juan Quezada after reading the book The Pot That Juan Built by Nancy Andrews-Goebel.

We also learned some about the history of and the how-to's of ceramics. Third through fifth took a "Basics of Clay" class with Mrs. Taylor, sketched designs for an animal pot, and then created a pot based off our sketch. We even learned how to sketch and why artists do it!

Here are some pictures of our work in the kiln room before and after firing. At this point, he kiln has fired approximately 550 ceramic bisque ware pieces in the past month--WOW! But we are not quite finished yet; we will be glazing these pots, firing them again, and bringing them home in December.  A complete ceramic cycle here on our campus!
